Veer Success Not Measured By Reviewers Alone [Exclusive Images]
Our ongoing coverage of Bollywood extravagnaza Veer continues with box office figures and more exclusive image from the U.K. Screening of the film. Despite negative reviews from some media outlets, Veer appears to be the 2nd or 3rd biggest grossing Bollywood film on its first day ever.
Salman Khan urged his fans to ignore the negative reviews and see the movie for themselves. Negative reviews or not, it appears Salman carries more clout with his millions of fans than movie reviewers do. Star power is alive and well in Bollywood.
According to the numbers we have received from inside the Veer camp, the film took in roughly 7.01 Crore, or about $1.5 million dollars on its first day, that’s in India alone. This news puts Veer just beneath Three Idiots in single screening, first day revenue. Veer is on a course to eclipse Wanted depending on the weekday and ongoing attendance. This news reflects both the appeal of Salman Khan, and how little people depend on movie reviews – at least when their heroes are involved.
We have ongoing interviews with the cast and crew, and will continue to follow the news about Bollywood’s most talked about film this year. We received exclusive photos from the U.K. premier of the film. The weekend box office receipts will not be available until tomorrow. In other buzz about Salman Khan, some media outlets are reporting he has affirmed his relationship with Katrina Kaif is ongoing, amid so many rumors.
Meanwhile, fans voiced their support for Khan as he ran in a Jaipur half-marathon today. Regardless of the muddy reviews for the film, Salman is still loved by many millions.
As for the other stars of Veer, most of the UK cast and crew appeared at the premier there. The beaufiful Lisa Lazarus in her debut film poses next to veteran actor (and as we learned dry comedian) William Chubb. From the images we received, it appeared fans there loved the film, and of course hob-bobbing it with movie stars.
Rumor has it that Lisa Lazarus has already been swamped with offers after her limited exposure in the film. We are scheduled to interview her later on in the week, if she can get past all the photo ops that is.

Veer continues to shock the industry. The film, already on a winning spree, is smashing records left, right and centre. As per early indications, the business of the film on Sunday was bigger than Saturday and Friday. Sources say it’s in Rs. 13 crore range, which means that the film has crossed Rs. 30 crore mark [nett] in barely 3.5 days. Unbelievable, but true!

Came to know that Veer is rocking in UK,US and Middle East Box-office.
Veer has got a big thumbs down from the critics and media but at the box office it has performed excellent till now. The film will emerge a Super hit in Rajasthan while circuits like Delhi/UP, Bihar, CP Berar and CI may also Super hit business. Single screen business is huge in the Hindi belt.

Comment by Aparna on 25 January 2010:
Veer!!! Bravo !!!!!!
Well, we dont get to see many Historical movies in Bollywood. Salman’s efforts and impressive performances by Mithun Da, Jaickie Dada and a soul toching music by Sajid Wajid has made the movie worth €11
The movie may not have come to the expectations of critics but hey as Amir said, more critics its the people who pay for the movie, pay for the taxi, busues to go the cinema hall are the real judges. And off the 13 people here in Dublin that I knew of all of them have called it a “Full Tu Entairtainer”
So well done to Sallu and good luck.
PS- I have watched it twice
As couldnt get enough of Salman and the songs.

My verdict 4/5

Latest news and exclusive trailer coming today. Veer, for whatever flaws even I could find, is a beautiful motion picture. Sometimes we have to find the best in things. I spend every day all day long looking for the best in news, and seldom go to sleep writing anything positive. Veer has met the expectations of the people it was made for. Movie goers.
Always,
Phil

Fazal, I had to edit the cursing. I do not appreciate you including this news site with the others. If you read the reviews I wrote you would know I am maybe the only one who was fair to Veer. Thanks for your reading, but read more closely next time.
Always,
Phil

[...] whine about how bad Salman and his film are doing. Why? Anyone can guess, but even Veer’s apparent successful monetization seems to be biased toward minimalising the films [...]

Hey Phil,
Its been a while.
Just wanted to know what Veer has achieved so far.
Box office India is saying its below average but planet bollywood is still saying awaiting. What do u think? I was thinking it would be a hit at least, there are so many conflicting reports on its actual box office collection. Can u please let me know if u have any info about its figures. Thanks…:)
