Thank God for Google on Valentine’s

Google Doodle

Valentine Captured

Happy Valentine’s 2012. In case you have not noticed, our brilliant friends at Google have come through on this special day with yet another superb animation. The Google Doodle to melt all our hearts today is an animated short played out to the tune of Tony Bennett’s “Cold, Cold Heart” – the song written by, and originally made famous by country music legend Hank Williams Sr.

In today’s “doodle” a young boy tries to impress his lady love with gifts, boxes of candy to underwater diving equipment, the lass fails to be moved – until, that is, the boy takes up a ruby red jump rope to join her playfully. Hit “play” and you see the boy searching all Google for just the right gift to win the girl’s heart – sequentially presenting her with a flower, then candy, then everything but the kitchen sink. The effect?

The effect of the little animation is sweet, entrancing, brilliant. For those in the mood, imagine what it says for the most powerful entity on the Internet to send out such a greeting. GE, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, the White House should be so brilliant – the world’s problems might dissolve. I must admit, I owe Sergey, Larry, and Eric on this one today. With all we are working on, I actaully forgot it was Valentine’s Day.

A World Charm from Trollbeads

Moments into Google’s “Cold, Cold Heart” short, glancing down at the calendar in the tool bar, I leaped from the chair and headed out for the jewelry store and florist down the street. “Thank God for Google”, I uttered. Like any huge corporation, there’s always a lot to criticize where Google is concerned. But, unlike almost any other conglomerate, Google’s personality is clearly in line with what Brin, Page, and Schmidt laid out years ago.

Happy Valentines world, and especially my partner and wife Mihaela. The Trollbeads “Big World” charm at right pretty much says it all, even if your forgot for a time. Note: For US readers you can check out Trollbeads’ wonderful line via the US website. Thanks Google, and Trollbeads for helping make Valentine’s special this year. Tell us your Valentine’s stories, okay?
