Monsoons From Cyclone Phyan Threaten Coastal Villages [second lead] [video update]
As Cyclone Phyan edges northward, officials are concerned that torrential rains will cause more flooding and landslides like those which already killed over 70 people in southern India. Mumbai and other cities along India’s west coast are bracing for the cyclone’s anticipated landfall sometime on Thursday. An orange alert has already been issued, and schools and government offices have been closed.
