Social Media Management Tips

As managing partner of a boutique high tech PR agency in Boston, March Communications, and mother of two young daughters, I find it difficult to participate regularly in the social media scene. Is this article worth tweeting? Should I make that a Facebook status update? These are questions I ask myself on a daily basis, yet can never seem to find the time to devote enough attention to. A lot of my professional time as of late has been spent navigating the relevancy of social media for my clients. What strategy makes the most sense? Which social media channels should they focus on? Moving forward, I’d like to practice what I preach more and focus on my personal social media participation.

Recently, I came across an article in Fast Company, discussing how to how to master your social media lifestyle, and found some tips very useful.

Writer Gina Trapani states, “When you’re active on the Web, keeping up with all your online accounts can feel like a full-time job.”

Gina offers some helpful tips to manage multiple social media accounts with minimal effort:

  • Make social network activity come to you, otherwise known as “funneling.” Funnel all messages from the varying social networks to your email inbox, which most of us check every day!
  • Interact from a single interface. Tools such as TweetDeck and Digsby allow you to update your Twitter and Facebook status simultaneously.
  • Separate your social media activity between business and personal.

“While you don’t want your social life to feel like work, keeping up a presence online and doing it well can pay off in business contacts and job leads down the road,” states Gina.

I’ll be sure to implement Gina’s social media management tips into my daily routine and will tweet my progress!
