Small Business, Great Dedication and an Even Bigger Heart

Some people inspire us, no matter what they do: their work, their commitment to their passions and their will to help others make us want to do better our selves. Rachelle Lucas is one of those people. Innkeeper, breakfast lover, blogger, travel tweeter and marathon runner, she is indeed a model to follow.

The woman running Tremain Street Cottages is indeed in love with everything breakfast. As she states on her blog, she loves it so much, she sometimes has it for dinner. And to share her passion for breakfast she bakes, cooks and prepares recipes from inns she visits and publishes the results on her blog, Inn The Kitchen. If you only scheme through the posts and the photos illustrating them, you’ll just want to have breakfast over and over again, until you just can’t eat anymore.

If managing an Inn and such a demanding blog (cooking, writing, making films, taking photos and posting everything takes a few hours I imagine) along with another one dedicated to reviewing and promoting inns is not enough, Rachelle is also a runner. A marathon runner to be precise. Other than the interest in her own heath and in promoting a healthy life, she’s also in it for the money :) Meaning she runs to raise money to fund cancer research for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. As Rachelle explained in a blog post, the center treats more children with cancer than any other institution in the world.

Up to now, the running team Rachelle is part of, Fred’s Team, named after running legend Fred Lebow, has managed to raise over 38 million dollars. That’s an impressive amount of money right there. If you’re interested in finding out more about the team and how you can help them, click this link.

What is the moral of the story? In a world where we chase speed and there’s not enough time for any one of us, this one woman proves you can actually have a job or business that you love, promote your business and your peers in a fun and effective way, follow your passion and also help others. And all this without having a special power to add a few more hours to the standard 24 of each day. Yes, the passion fuels the publicity around inns in general and her own business, yes, knowing how to relate to peers, guests and fellow food and travel lovers helps her in her quest to raise research funds, but she also proves none of this is rocket science. It just takes dedication and a big heart!

  1. Thanks for the love! It was quite unexpected and made me smile today. And … I do have a special “power” that helps me get it all done … COFFEE!

  2. You’re very welcome! Funny enough, I was reading someone’s complaint about coffee not keeping its end of the deal: we drink it, it gives us superpowers :d Too bad it does not work all the time and for everyone.

I did love both your blogs and your business and I admire your fund raising effort. Good luck with everything!
