New Charity Campaign on Twitter, by @SaraLeeDeli, to Raise up to $25,000 Against Childhood Hunger

Some of the facts related to childhood hunger in US are staggering: 12.4 million children don’t have access to enough healthy food to thrive. Lack of food might lead to impaired cognitive functioning and diminished capacity to learn. During US National Sandwich Day on Nov. 3, Sara Lee Deli hopes to make Share Our Strength’s “No Child Hungry” vision known to the world, by initiating a Twitter campaign. Naturally, there will be an obvious advantage for Sara Lee Deli: the expansion of its Twitter network with more followers – but the strategy is one of the most brilliant and most altruistic I’ve seen in a while.

During US National Sandwich Day on Nov. 3, Sara Lee Deli will donate $1 per Twitter follower – up to $25,000 (equivalent of 16,500 sandwiches) – to Share Our Strength.

“It’s National Sandwich Day! Celebrate by following @SaraLeeDeli and we’ll donate $1 to Share Our Strength! #DeliDifference” – this is how Sara Lee Deli motivates Twitter users today, to become part of its network. At the moment we write this, Sara Lee Deli has only 1000 followers. Should the campaign be successful, Sara Lee hopes at least 25,000 followers at the end of the day.

Followers who want to spread the word about the campaign are encouraged to use #sldeli and #delidifference hash tags. On the Sara Lee Deli Facebook page fans are encouraged to help promote this campaign and to participate in discussions and polls about the charity and its cause.

    1. Thanks for highlighting this charity. If it weren’t for Everything PR, I never would have known about it.

Hunger is a big issue for our family. We regularly donate to our local food pantry. One of my children even spent a Summer volunteering there.

What people don’t realize is that hunger is all around us, in every country. It’s often invisible, since people don’t want to admit that they are going without.

I hope that Sarah Lee gets the $25,000 they need to fight this problem.
