PR Stunt Surprise: Barbi Twins Supporting the “Restore Our American Mustangs Act”

In a very recent news report, two young playmates who otherwise make the headlines with other types of stories, have decided to challenge the US House of Representatives for lack of commitment to animals rights.

The House of Representatives recently passed the “Restore Our American Mustangs Act,” which adds resources to protect these endangered wild horses. According to the news, Representative Doc Hastings, (R-Wash.), is questioning the sensibility of the act given the economic climate and its $200 million price tag. Shane and Sia Barbi, daughter of Willie Nelson, Amy Nelson, and other supporters of the act, are up in arms basically calling Hastings and other politicians “snakes” over their lack of commitment to animal issues.

Shane Barbi pretty much laid the cards on the table in calling Hastings and others on “the Hill” snakes:

“These people are snakes in the way that they’re trying to disguise themselves as someone that cares about animals. Well, bottom line: The voters want to help animals no matter how bad times are.”

animal loversAnd who said blonds are dumb? Most of America has yet to figure out Capital Hill is a bed of snakes, I guess being a playboy center fold has more to do with brains than any of us thought. Amy Nelson added that she thought President Obama would support the bill, calling him caring and intelligent. There seems to be as much logic in spending $200 million to save part of America’s heritage as there is in spending 50 times that much to bail our Wall Street crooks to me.

We do so many stories about people striving to get more attention for themselves on Everything PR, and seldom get a chance to report on those obviously grabbing headlines for a good cause. It is heart warming almost to see celebrities who could as easily appear on some reality show as speak up for the animal kingdom. Of course we cannot see into the hearts and motivations of people all that well, but standing up to “snake charmers” is a darned good indication of at least some integrity. Check out the podcast of the various sides to this story via Politico.

I don’t know what you heard, but this Congressman sounds like he does not know beans about much of anything. Having a tribal Indian reservation in one’s district (one he seems unable to name) does not sound like anyone who should be representing Washington state’s ranchers, Indians, wildlife or anything else but bean counting territory. If one had to rate the relative PR value of having this guy speak about this issue, against the Barbi Twins? Well, maybe we should be looking elsewhere for our representation, they could not do much worse.
