Famous Good Friday Quotes You May Never Have Heard

First and foremost, we want to wish everyone a Happy Easter on this, Good Friday 2010. One Google Trend out there is a search for quotes and SMS messages to send to loved ones. So, in keeping with what you are looking for, here are some you may or may not be familiar with.

Good Friday is a great day for all of the Christian community. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ being remembered most pointedly on this day and Easter Sunday. Good Friday this year, is no different except in the ways we can share our feelings about this time. Here are some quotes which convey the meaning and importance of this day.

“The essence of that by which Jesus overcame the world was not suffering, but obedience. Yes, men may puzzle themselves and their hearers over the question where the power of the life of Jesus and the death of Jesus lay; but the soul of the Christian always knows that it lay in the obedience of Christ. He was determined at every sacrifice to do His Father’s will. Let us remember that; and the power of Christ’s sacrifice may enter into us, and some little share of the redemption of the world may come through us, as the great work came through Him.” – Phillip Brooks -

The following quotes are about Good Friday, Easter, and the resurrection.

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” – I Peter (ch. II, v. 24) -

“Let every man and woman count himself immortal. Let him catch the revelation of Jesus in his resurrection. Let him say not merely, “Christ is risen,” but “I shall rise.” – Phillips Brooks -

“But from this earth, this grave, this dust, My God shall raise me up, I trust.” – Walter Raleigh -

And from the likes of Ralph Waldo Emerson, powerful words, if few, can reveal the depth of this season.

“He takes men out of time and makes them feel eternity.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson -

‘Twas Easter-Sunday. The full-blossomed trees – Filled all the air with fragrance and with joy.” – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow -

“Our Lord has written the promise of the resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in spring-time.” – Martin Luther -

These are but a few thoughtful and provoking passages about Good Friday and Easter. At this time, it is important to remember the unbelievable legacy mankind has laid out before him. If God himself could suffer the humiliation of crucifixion, torment in human form, and now sometimes unfaithfulness, what lesson does Springtime teach us about improving ourselves? Happy Easter, and we hope your Good Friday begins your life anew.
