Michael Douglas Sick Over Son Cameron’s Drug Arrest [video]

Devastated by his son’s arrest over drug allegations. Michael Douglas and his former wife Diandra Luker are even more stunned at their son’s latest escapade, smuggling drugs while awaiting trial for selling drugs! Reports of their son Cameron’s alleged trafficking in illegal drugs hit the family hard, and Cameron faces a possible life sentence if convicted. But now, 30-year-old Cameron is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, for violated the terms of his home detention.

According to the allegations, Cameron begged his girlfriend, Kelly Sott, to smuggle heroin to him in an electric toothbrush. Douglas, who has been caught with drugs previously, was being detained at his mother’s home awaiting trial for possession of large quantities of methamphetamine.

Michael at 90Michael, one of Hollywood’s most revered and taleted actors, won an Academy Award for his role in Wall Street. Ironically, Douglas was asked by director Oliver Stone if he was using drugs, on that set at one point. The Douglas family is one of the most prestigious in tinsel town, counting Kirk Douglas and Michael amongst the most respected actors the industry has yet seen. For this reporter, I can only imagine the humiliation, atop the personal anguish, over Cameron’s activities on the wrong side of the law. In the picture at left, Michael look older than his Dad Kirk. One has to wonder if he did not know of his Son’s problems in April when this was taken.

Michael experienced addiction himself in coping with an alcohol problem some years back, but Cameron’s problems appear to be far more serious at this point. Being in trouble is one thing, but soliciting more drugs for evident personal use under such circumstances is indicative of someone out on the edge. There has been no comment so far from Michael’s wife Catherine Zeta Jones Douglas about the affair. I looked at a picture of Michael earlier today, and wondered at how someone only in his mid 60′s could look so old. Is it always sad to hear of families dealing with such things, and somehow particularly when so much success and good news has come of their presence in the world. Michael and his former wife release the following statement to the press.

“The family is devastated and very disappointed in Cameron’s recent behaviour. Any family who has dealt with substance abuse knows how devastating it can be.”

For Cameron, other reports suggest that he may not get off lightly if convicted of all the allegations. According to investigators with the DEA and FBI, Cameron was involved in a much wider spread operation which entailed FedX shipments of illegal drugs internationally, and the landlord where Douglas was staying also alluded to suspicion that “a lot of drug activity was obviously going on”, referring to his opinion as to traffic to and from Douglas’ residence. We will keep you posted on developments as they happen.
